Nathalie and Alain Antognelli – phototeam: “Greenland : Eye Witness Report - Listening to the people of Greenland” In September 2009, Nathalie
and Alain completed an 1100 kilometre kayak expedition around the coast of
Greenland between the towns of d’Upernavik at 72°47’ north, and Ilulisat in the
bay of Disko, at 69°13’ north.
Their aim was to photograph the daily life of the Inuit people, and to
report on their views and opinions about their environment, their lives and
their future. They are currently
working on the production of a book entitled “Temoignages” (“Eye Witness
Report”). Click here to go their
website and view stunning photographs of Greenland and her people. The team used our Pacific Action 1.5sqm
– PA_MI15 sail systems.

Steve Gurney (www.gurneygears.com) –
top New Zealand
multi-sport athlete and adventurer recently re-created the landmark 1889
expedition of George Park in the South Island of New Zealand, with portage of
kayaks across Harpers Pass and a 100 km paddle across Pegasus Bay. Pacific Action sponsored this expedition,
with our 1.5sqm sail system – model PA_MI15. (During
trials, Steve set the boat speed record for a Pacific Action sail – 20 kph on
Lake Hawea in a gail with our 1sqm sail system (emailed 7/1/08)).

Testimonial from Thomas Ulrich (14/12/07): During our expedition from the North Pole to the Franz Joseph Land archipelago, Børge Ousland and I followed the historic tracks of Fridtjof Nansen Hjalmar Johansen some 100 years ago. On our 1500 kilometre-trip, we used kayaks as sleds because we had to cross several stretches of open water around and between the islands. We brought along Sails that we could mount on our kayaks. These sails proved very helpful. They saved us a lot of energy without adding too much weight. But they also allowed us to cross long stretches of open water much safer than without sails. e.g. one of the key sections was the crossing from Hooker Island to Northbrook Island, where we had to cross 34 km of open sea. We waited several days for favourable winds and then made the crossing in 8 hours of sailing and paddling. Without sails, this crossing would have been so much more strenuous and extremely risky, too! This is even more true, when we consider, that a storm hit the area the day after that crossing. It would have been really bad, to be on the ocean still. Normally, we joined our kayaks to a catamaran when we crossed open water. This made us less vulnerable for possible Walrus attacks. The sails worked great in that configuration as well. Sometimes, we even used the sails on the ice. When we had a stiff wind from the back, the sails helped us to pull the sleds more easily. Big thanks to Pacific Action Sails for their support. Their sails worked great on our expedition! Thomas Ulrich

in “The Manly Daily” on June 30th, they said “With 50km still to go to the
dam wall, we got a brilliant day of wind, and were able to put up the sails to
finish the journey”.

Richard Raschdorf - team NYARA reports...
"I borrowed the 2 kayak sails from Chris
Ballou Team 911, they were a factor in us placing 1st in the
4 person category (Team NYARA) of the 4 Winds USA Supreme race in Utah (Aug
17-24) 350+ mile race. We were on a lake with 3 to 4 foot swells with
15-20 knot winds. We passed other teams as if they were standing still,
it was a great feeling. We used them on every kayak leg in the race, and
we were sailing almost straight into the wind, I did some slight
modifications."
