About Us

.... a new
paddling dimension Pacific Action sails were developed by kayak enthusiasts to enhance the
paddling experience. Our sails have established a formidable reputation with
expeditions and adventure racing world-wide, are great for touring and a
breeze to use. They have also
proven themselves in long-haul expeditions from the North Pole to South
America, and in trans-ocean crossings (click on “Our Teams” in the
side-bar). Pacific Action
sails are stable, reliable and have great versatility. To raise the sail,
unwrap from around the twin masts and release. The shock cord pulls the sail
up in seconds! Adjust the sail angle using the trimming line. Sail across the wind! Our
sails will give windward performance with expedition-style sea kayaks (see
“Video Clips” side-bar). The
sail can be lowered just as easily. These sails integrate the wind with the
sea. Paddling with a Pacific Action sail is like swimming with fins!
The wind and the paddle combine, the result - a new paddling dimension....
Pacific
Action sails are quickly set for running across the wind (reaching) and going
to windward (by
locking back the trailing mast) – or
release the trimming line and power downwind! The trimming line works with our patented mast step cam system to provide rapid adjustment of the sail shape –
change the sail from a downwind Vee rig, to a reaching foil shape in
seconds (check out our video clips! – side-bar).

and run across the wind Pacific Action sail systems are a uniquely versatile sail design, which
has a received international patents and a design award. Pacific Action sails
are manufactured by On Top Down Under, which was established in 2001, in
Castor Bay, Auckland, New Zealand, - the doorstep to the Hauraki Gulf and a
paddling Mecca. – On Top Down Under now services our Distributors, Dealers
and Web-based customers from sites in New Zealand and Australia. Note on rigging: Pacific
Action ® sails rig to most sit-in sea kayaks, sit-on-top kayaks, folding
kayaks and canoes. Sails can be
mounted on the foredeck, or suspended between the sides of the boat if there
is no deck. Rudders are optional
and extend the versatility of the sail – letting the boat point higher to the
wind, however, the Pacific Action sail performs well on boats lacking
a rudder. Applications: Sea
Kayak sailing, sit-on-top kayak sail, kayak fishing (extend your range – hold
your rod and troll that lure), canoe sailing. Note that Pacific Action sails do not interfere with
paddling.
